Dettmers Rising Sun also offers Western, English, and Lunge Line training and lessons on a limited basis.  Jim has been training outside horses for more than ten years, and knows how to get a horse started with a great foundation.  This foundation carries over well into the show ring.

Dettmers Rising Sun prides itself on waiting on horses to grow mentally and physically before putting the demands of a rigorous training program on them.  Each horse is treated as an individual with individual needs and abilities as well as limitations.  Jim is honest about those abilities and consequently has turned horses away if the owner's goals are unrealistic.  While we do understand the goals of individuals, and a strong desire for horses to perform, we firmly believe in the quality of our training program and the longevity of our horses' careers.

Jim has seen success in the pen, holding futurity wins, top fives at the Southern Belle, and a top ten the All American Quarter Horse Congress.  This success has been the result of hard work, diligence and honesty.

Jim is a full time teacher, and this perspective helps him to build the confidence of clients and truly make them a team with their horse.  Jim's focus as an educator has been Elementary, and he has adapted those strategies to help adults reach their goals as well.
